Magical Mont St Michel

This fascinating island featuring a magnificent abbey and is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is viewed as one of France’s most popular and culturally significant attractions.

And we visited it. From our base in Fontaine-Henri in Normandy, France.

Mind you it was a bit of a drive. We left at 07.00 and arrived at about 08.30 when the car park was reasonably empty.

We opted to walk over the causeway bridge to the island but there are shuttle buses available from the car park.  To note: the walk from the car park takes roughly 40 minutes.

The winding cobblestone streets take you through what was the village (today its filled with curio shops and eateries) to the gravity defying Abbey.

The Abbey is magnificent on the outside but it also worth seeing the interiors!

Top tip: Get there early to avoid bus tour groups from photo bombing the views 🙂

There is a slightly smaller version of Mont Saint Michel located near Marazion, Cornwall in England and is called St Michael’s Mount if you can’t make it to France.
